March of the Monarchs

We’ve had an exciting week at our house. Please note that I don’t have a great camera, so some of the pictures of our butterfly aren’t that great!

Pictures this way…

Our butterfly started as a beautiful green chrysalis.

And then a week later it turned black.

And then she came out!

Isn’t she beautiful?

Simon and I are actually holding hands here.

We took her to the Wetlands, where we met the famous Chip Taylor. He taught us how to tag her and then we let her go.

We caught a few more butterflies and we tagged them too. The tags keep track of the butterflies and let the researchers know how many make it to Mexico.

As we let each one go, we said "Fly to Mexico!"

Not a great photo, but can you see all my scrapes? The natural grass of the wetlands cut our legs up. Next year I will remember to wear jeans and bring Matty along.
